| Preserving and minimizing consumption of natural resources have become an integral part of the day-to-day activities in GTL operations across the globe. |
| |
| GTL through its various communication mode educates employees about the environment as well as the best practices relating to reducing electricity, paper and water consumption. For example it has shown how little things like how computer monitors, air conditioning machines, florescent bulbs can result in minimization of resources. |
| GTL identifies improvement measurement by means of EMPs (Environment Management Projects) and targets are identified for the year. |
| |
| Some of the EMP’s that have been identified are: |
Reduced Electricity Consumption: Achieved 11.83% reduction as against a target of 5% YoY |
Reduced Water Consumption: Achieved 12.87% reduction as against a target of 5% YoY |
Reduction in Paper Consumption: Achieved and Maintained 33% reduction in paper consumption for last two years. |
| |
| The major achievements are: |
| |
| |
| Reduction in Electricity Consumption |
| Reduction in Electricity Consumption (KWH per employee) achieved in 2008-09 is 13% as compared to 2007-08. This has resulted in cost savings of INR 218380.00. We focus on electricity as we consider this as key element to create awareness while monitoring the consumption of natural resources. |

| |
| :: Measures we undertake to reduce electricity consumption |
| Increased efficiency |
Improving the Operating Power Factor by introducing Capacitors |
Using Energy Efficient Air Conditioning System |
Replacing conventional copper Chokes with Electronic Chokes |
Periodic Preventive Maintenance of all Electrical equipments, Diesel Generator sets and ups |
The copper pipes on AC's were covered with rubber sleeves to prevent loss of energy and thus have achieved a reduction in consumption of electricity. |
| |
| Energy Savings |
Using Compact Fluorescent lamps, and T-5 tube which is a low watt tube |
Regular cleaning of lights and electricity bulbs and making maximum use of Natural lights |
| |
| Reduced need for energy |
Infrastructure is executed so as to utilize maximum sunlight. Glass walls and windows have replaced concrete or brick walls. Approx 16170 sq.ft of brick wall has been replaced by glass |
| |
| Education & Awareness |
Achieved through internal campaign on Power Saving Tips |
Use of 410 gas in AC in place of R22 to ensure environment friendly development. R22 is ozone-depleting gas hence we have started phasing out AC's on R22 and replace by AC's on 410 gas. |

| Reduction in Paper Consumption |
| We have identified paper consumption as one of the significant aspects and hence reduction in paper consumption is our EMP. We have achieved reduction in paper consumption per employee year after year. In the year 2008-09 reduction in paper consumption to the tune of 17% was achieved as compared to 2007-08. This resulted in savings of approx INR 75000.00. |

| :: Measures to reduce paper consumption |
Reuse, Recycle Paper through |
| |
 | Note Pads |
Reusable Envelopes |
Reuse of one sided printed paper |
Printers procured with double side printing features |
Employee Education to reuse & recycle paper by |
| |
 | Encouraging Electronic correspondence |
Imparting training on various techniques of resource consumption |
Auto introduction of Responsibility message in emails that reads " Please do not print this email unless you really need to. Save Paper, Save Environment" |
Paper which can not be used further are shredded and sent to paper mills for recycling |

| Reduction in Water Consumption |
| GTL implements plans to manage water consumption under its environment policy with a purpose to integrate “reduction in water consumption policies” into our everyday operations of environmental management system. In 2007-08 we have achieved 12.87% reduction as against a target of 5% Y-o-Y |
| |
| :: Water Consumption |
| |
| The industry average consumption is 33 cubic meter per employee. The objective of the year 2009-10 is to achieve further reduction of 5% as compared to water consumption per employee in 2008-09. |
| |
| Some of the best practices adopted at GTL for water conservation are : |
| |
We use mechanical floor cleaning machine. Vehicles are washed using a fixed quantity of water. |
We have installed sprinklers for gardening so that more area gets watered in less amount of water. |
Installed Urinal Sensors to auto flush the urinal with fixed quantity of water during renovation. |
Educating People in premises to be water efficient by display of posters on Water Conservation in every toilet and near washbasins. |
Utensils in cafeteria are washed in tub. No washing under running water is permitted. |
Hourly round of all washrooms to check if any tap is left open. |
Weekly maintenance check of all water pipes, joints and taps. |
Immediate rectification of any leaks, joints observed. |
Surprise water consumption checks during vehicle cleaning, workspace cleaning, gardening and in cafeteria. |
